Online Transparency Audit Highlights Local Government

Two area local government agencies did notΒ receive a passing grade for governmentΒ transparency online from a recent Illinois Policy Institute audit, according to a Daily Herald analysis.
In its audit,Β the Illinois Policy Institute looked atΒ access to contact information online as well as public meetings, public records, budgets, audits, expenditures, contracts, taxes and more, according to the Illinois Policy Institute website.
The Daily Herald analysisΒ found of the 102 suburban governmentΒ agencies in the audit, 70 had scores of 60 percent or below, including, McHenry County, which received a score of 56.4.Β

Meanwhile, one local community got high marks in the audit. The village of Huntley received a score of 98.3 out of 100, according to the Daily Herald.Β
The audit did not include the city of Crystal Lake, village of CaryΒ or any area school districts.Β
