Registration Deadlines Approaching for Crystal Lake Park District Chess, Math and Lego Engineering Classes
These Classes Inspire Critical Thinking
The Crystal Lake Park District is offering five programs designed to inspire critical thinking and make learning fun. Smart Start Chess (Ages 3-5 years) Code #4598-4
Wednesday, January 27-March 2, 6:30-7:15 pm (registration deadline January 22)

It’s never too early to learn to play Chess. This class has 5-7 major transitions to keep young students excited and engaged. Songs, art, dance and creative play are used to expose children to chess concepts and pieces and to help them gain a basic understanding of the game.

Program Fee: $101, Resident Discount Fee: $96
No previous knowledge of chess is necessary. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time with personalized attention. Children will have an opportunity to test for a Chess Belt under a unique Chess Scholars system. Students can participate in a chess competition with prizes.

We make practicing math fun! Math enrichment activities include Magic Money Machine, making a Magic Band and working out a Magic Square. Students will come home with a passion for math and a greater understanding of math’s real-world uses.

Working with LEGO Education Kits, participants will make working models of simple machines to experience levers, pulleys, wheels, axles and gears. Children will learn “how things work” which helps develop the aptitude for engineering and promotes learning in science.
