U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock Resigns Amid Mounting Financial Questions
Another Illinois politician bites the dust.

In the end, U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Peoria, couldnβt βshake offβ media scrutiny over his use of campaign funds and taxpayer dollars for alleged personal expenses.
What started as a quirky story about the congressmanβs Downton Abbey-themed office makeover in Washington quickly escalated into a series of questions regarding Schockβs spending, which included expensive stays at five-star resorts and a private plane flight on Nov. 16 from Peoria to Chicago to catch the Bears-Vikings football game, among other things.
On March 17, Politico uncovered major discrepancies in Schockβs motor vehicle records and the tens of thousands of dollars he billed the federal government for mileage reimbursements. Less than 12 hours after this news broke, the congressman announced his resignation effective March 31.
