Sidewalks Planned For 2 Darien Streets
Aldermen approved hiring engineering firm to do designs.

DARIEN, IL – Darien aldermen this week approved hiring an engineering firm for design work to build 5-foot-wide sidewalks along two Darien streets. The projects are planned for this year.
One of the sidewalks is set for the east side of Clarendon Hills Road from 67th Street to Plainfield Road, totaling two-thirds of a mile. Now, the west side of the street and small parts of the east have sidewalks.
The other sidewalk would be on the south side of 79th Street from Cass Avenue to Stratford Place, a little more than a quarter of a mile. Only a handful of houses have sidewalks on either side of the road.

Late last year, the city applied for a state Safe Routes to Schools grant to help pay for the sidewalks. It has not received word back. Even if the city doesn't receive state money, it has budgeted money for the projects.
