2 SUVs In Darien Stolen, One Worth $80K

Local police did not say whether the vehicles were locked.

DARIEN, IL — Two SUVs were stolen in Darien last week, one of them worth $80,000, police said.

The $80,000 SUV was stolen between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Park Crest Drive, according to a police report.

The other was taken about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 4 in the 7100 block of Eleanor Place. Video documented the theft. The vehicle's value was unknown.

Police did not say whether the SUVs were locked.

Earlier this week, Darien police issued a statement saying car thefts are on the rise lately in town and other suburbs.

The most common types of vehicles being targeted are Dodge Chargers, Dodge Challengers, Dodge Durangos and Jeep Cherokees, police said.

Suspects are using sophisticated equipment and do not need keys to operate the cars, the city said.
