DARIEN, IL – A standalone, drive-thru coffee shop is planned for a shopping center in Darien, according to city documents.

It would be between Taco Bell and Concentra Urgent Care at the corner of 75th Street and Cass Avenue. The site is in the outlying parking lot for the complex that includes the local Jewel grocery store.

According to a city memo, the coffee shop is under contract to develop and lease the property.

Two years ago, the city approved a zoning permit to allow a 1,000-square-foot restaurant on the property.

The permit lasted a year, with the city extending it for another.

On Wednesday, a city committee plans to consider another year's extension. It is being requested by the developer, Vick Mehta, owner of Downers Grove-based Indvestia Capital.

According to the 2024 plan, the restaurant was to feature a drive-thru and outdoor seating. Customers would be unable to go inside the building, Mehta said at the time.

Darien's Plan Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 1702 Plainfield Road.

Also at the meeting, the commission is expected to consider two proposed chain restaurants in town.
