Hinsdale South AP Government students take learning beyond the classroom with a visit from U.S. Congressman

Just one day after completing their Advanced Placement Government exam, Hinsdale South AP Government & Politics students had the opportunity to continue the conversation about public service during a special visit from U.S. Congressman, Bill Foster.

Foster met with students and school leaders at Hinsdale South on Wednesday, May 6, for discussions on education, artificial intelligence, and college, career, and workforce readiness.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about government, public policy, and Foster’s role representing Illinois in Congress, adding a timely and real-world connection to their classroom learning.

“It was a tremendous opportunity for our students to engage directly with Congressman Foster and hear firsthand about public service, leadership, and the issues impacting our communities,” Hinsdale South Principal, Dr. Kari Peronto said. “Experiences like this help connect classroom learning to the real world and inspire students to think critically about their futures and their role as engaged members of their communities.”

Peronto and Foster also discussed several of the opportunities and challenges schools are navigating today. Topics included the growing role of artificial intelligence in education, the importance of work-based learning and internships, preparing students for college, careers, and the workforce, as well as how schools are approaching student cell phone use and other evolving educational topics.

The visit reflected Hinsdale South’s continued commitment to providing authentic learning experiences that connect academics, civic engagement, and career readiness.
