DARIEN, IL – A pickup truck has been sitting on a Darien street for two months, in apparent violation of local rules, a resident told city officials Monday.

John Yurchak, who lives on Somerset Lane, said parking on nearby Farmingdale Drive has been a problem.

Under Darien regulations, people are barred from parking overnight on city streets. But they can temporarily obtain permission for up to three days in a row.

At a City Council meeting, Yurchak said he goes down Farmingdale Drive several times a day. He blamed the illegal parking on tenants at Farmingdale Apartments.

"I never see a ticket on these cars," he said. "It's these same cars. There's just no skin in the game when it comes to these apartments. They don't care what's in the community."

The apartment complex, he said, has plenty of parking.

Alderwoman Mary Sullivan asked Police Chief Greg Thomas whether Darien towed parking violators.

"Not usually," he said.

"In Chicago, they put a boot on your car and tow you," she said.

The chief said the city puts people in collections for nonpayment of fines. It can also revoke license plates for not paying up, he said.
