DARIEN, IL – A pool hall plans to open this fall in Darien's Chestnut Court shopping center, according to its website.
The business, 9 Sting Billiards, is setting up shop in the space formerly occupied by XSport Fitness. The shopping center is southeast of 75th Street and Lemont Road.
In April, the City Council approved a permit for the pool hall. At the time, officials said the business may seek a subsidy from Chestnut Court's tax increment financing district, or TIF.
No such request has been reviewed by the council yet. Patch emailed the city Wednesday to ask whether 9 Sting has submitted an application.
Recently, Patch dropped by 9 Sting's location. It appeared a renovation had begun.
Patch left a message for comment with 9 Sting more than a week ago.
Last year, the city designated Chestnut Court a tax increment financing district, attempting to revive the struggling shopping center.
According to 9 Sting's plan, the business would include 32 pool tables, six video game machines, a "high-end" darts area and a mezzanine level with space for private parties and corporate events.
The business plans to serve alcohol.
In an April story, Patch reported on the owner's statements about what 9 Sting would offer.
