See Video Of Shirtless Darien Home Invasion Suspect

DARIEN, IL – A shirtless man accused of a Darien home invasion earlier this month paced in his father's Homer Glen house while officers urged him to go outside, police said.

Michael Lahey, 32, of Homer Glen, was ultimately arrested.

During the afternoon of Aug. 4, Lahey broke glass at a house in the 1400 block of Sequoia Lane and then entered, police said. He threw glass at the resident, tossed a stool at him and stole the resident's phone, authorities said. The resident was reported as injured in the arm and torso.

In response to Patch's records request, Darien police on Friday released footage from the situation at the house on Maverick Trail in Homer Glen.

For hours, officers from several agencies, including a SWAT team, stood outside the house. They cut off the utilities and deployed tear gas. Drones buzzed nearby.

Wearing blue shorts and no shirt, Lahey could be seen pacing in a first-floor room.

An officer repeatedly yelled at Lahey to leave the house.

"I know you're getting tired. I know you're hungry," he said. "We're not leaving."

The officer said they had plenty of water for Lahey and that his father wanted to speak with him.

"We don't want to destroy your dad's house," the officer said. "We're not going to harm you at all."

The officer also said he didn't want their dog to bite Lahey.

The officers shined lights into the room, commenting on how the gas was affecting Lahey.

"His face is getting very red," an officer said. "He's trying to open his eyes."

About 11:30 p.m., video showed the officers with Lahey on the ground in what appeared to be the living room.

Officers kept trying to turn on the light, but were reminded that the power had been cut off.

They got Lahey a pair of shoes. As officers walked Lahey out of the house, his shorts hung low, showing part of his buttocks.

When an officer double-locked Lahey's handcuffs, the suspect said, "What are you doing? You're messing with me."

Then he asked why he was handcuffed.

"Because you're under arrest," an officer said.

"For what?"

"For a slew of things," the officer said. "We'll get you all the charges."

"I need to know. I'm in America," Lahey said.

When he was put in a squad car, Lahey complained that he could not fit properly in the seat.

An officer replied, "You're going to have to make it work."

Lahey protested, "This is not the way it works."

"This is the only way it works," the officer said.

Police have indicated that Lahey's late grandmother used to live in the Sequoia Avenue house where Lahey is alleged to have invaded.

Police said they were told that Lahey had prepared to visit the house several months ago, but got into a crash on the way and never went.

Lahey faces two felony counts of home invasion, a felony count of aggravated fleeing and a misdemeanor theft count.
