Patch obtained the police report through a public records request.

Officers responded to the country club about 6 p.m. Aug. 29.

They found the 33-year-old man with a swollen, black-and-blue left eye with a cut beneath it, according to the report.

After playing a round of golf sponsored by his union, the 33-year-old man said he saw a man in the restroom whom he believed also belonged to the union. The 33-year-old said he then made the gay remarks, police said.

Outside the restroom, the 33-year-old said the other man asked him to step outside, which he did. The 33-year-old said the other man then punched him in the face before leaving the club, according to the report.

Security camera footage apparently told a different story.

The two men were seen emerging from the country club and talking for about 10 seconds, according to the police report.

The 33-year-old could be seen clenching his right fist and trying to strike the other man, but missed, police said.

An altercation took place, but police said it was not visible on camera because of where the men were.

The 33-year-old man has had a brush with the law before. In July 2018, he was charged with battery at a Chicago bar, according to public records. His mugshot shows bruises on his face.
