WOODRIDGE, IL – A Woodridge man is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase last week through Woodridge and Darien, DuPage County prosecutors said.
Laron Robinson, 19, was ordered to be held in the DuPage County Jail until his trial, police said.
About 8 p.m. Friday, a Woodridge police officer saw Robinson, the driver of a white Kia sedan, change lanes and make a right turn in one move on Woodward Avenue, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
The officer followed the Kia into a residential area on Cambridge Road and then activated emergency lights and a siren at Concord Drive and Pioneer Avenue.
Prosecutors alleged Robinson sped away, with the officer losing sight after Robinson turned south onto Springside Avenue.
A few minutes later, a crash was reported at Devereux Road and 75th Street involving a white sedan that struck another car and drove away, police said.
Another crash was called in 10 minutes later at Lemont Road and Woodmere Drive involving the same sedan, which struck a Ford pickup truck while trying to get in front of it after passing, police said.
About a half hour later, a Darien officer saw the Kia in the 8000 block of Windsor Drive. Prosecutors alleged Robinson sped away, going 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, prosecutors said.
He then drove head-on toward the Darien officer at one point, passed on the wrong side of the road, and later drove into oncoming traffic on Lemont Road, at Lyman Avenue and Manning Road, and reached about 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said.
The chase ended in a home's driveway in the 900 block of Rob Roy Place in Downers Grove, where prosecutors allege Robinson backed into the Darien officer's squad car after the officer pulled in behind him, prosecutors said. Robinson then drove into bushes and got stuck. He was arrested.
Robinson was charged with three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, one count of criminal damage to public property, and more than 30 misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses.
