DARIEN, IL – The coffee and ice cream chains coming to Darien are expected to open by early next year, an official said Monday.
"Obviously, demolition just happened," Dan Gombac, the city's top public works official, told the City Council. "Construction permits have been released."
The old TGI Fridays restaurant at 2201 75th St. was torn down to make way for a building containing Dutch Bros Coffee and Andy's Frozen Custard.
At the council meeting, Alderman Eric Gustafson said he keeps receiving questions about the property. The site also gets frequent mentions on local Nextdoor pages.
Last month, Downers Grove officials approved zoning for a Dutch Bros restaurant at Saratoga and Ogden avenues.
In Darien, Chicago-based Core Acquisitions is the developer.
According to the Arizona-based Dutch Bros, the chain has about 1,300 locations across 27 states. Illinois has 16.
Springfield, Missouri-based Andy's Frozen Custard consists of more than 170 locations across 15 states. Eighteen are in the Chicago area, including La Grange Park, Naperville, Bolingbrook and Orland Park.
In December 2024, the TGI Fridays restaurant in Darien shut its doors soon after the national chain filed for bankruptcy protection.
Illinois has three TGI Fridays restaurants left – Chicago, Bedford Park and Effingham.
