DARIEN, IL – A Downers Grove man who threatened a Westmont police officer three years ago did so again over the weekend in Darien, authorities said.
In both cases, the threats came during DUI arrests, police said.
Ron McClain, 47, was charged with felony threatening a public official and misdemeanors such as DUI, driving with a revoked license and obstructing a police officer, police said.
A DuPage County judge granted prosecutors' request to keep McClain in jail until his trial.
The latest charges stem from an incident about 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Cass Avenue at 75th Street, police said.
Police said that a Darien officer saw a driver later identified as McClain not wearing a seatbelt, speeding for no apparent reason, slowing down and swerving within his lane.
The officer saw that McClain had red, bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol, police said. An on-site breath test indicated that McClain's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.
Prosecutors alleged that while at the police station, McClain told an officer, "I wish I catch you out on the street. I'm going to shoot you."
McClain had been on pre-trial release in a 2023 Westmont case alleging he threatened to kill an officer. In that case, he was charged with four counts of threatening a public official.
In Westmont, when an officer at the police station handed paperwork to him about how to retrieve his car after the DUI hold, McClain slapped the papers out of the officer's hand, causing the papers to hit the floor, authorities said.
Westmont police said McClain told the officer, "I'll pull up on you're a-- b----, I'll blow your mother f------ head off," "I' going to get my gun," and "When I see you, boom! Your head gone b----."
