Are Those Cameras On 75th In Darien?

City and county officials respond to an inquiry from Patch.

DARIEN, IL – A reader asked Patch over the weekend about what appeared to be video cameras at traffic lights on 75th Street in Darien.

He thought Darien was preparing for red-light cameras on 75th between Fairview and Cass avenues.

Darien has no red-light camera program, and 75th Street is a DuPage County road.

In an email to Patch, City Administrator Bryon Vana said the equipment may be newer-style sensors for emergency vehicles to change lights to green when they approach.

DuPage County made clear the equipment, whatever it is, has nothing to do with red-light cameras.

"The County does not have any red light cameras and has no intention of putting any on County roads," county spokesman Evan Shields said in an email to Patch. "However, there is a lot of equipment out there, so we can’t say for certain what the equipment is without seeing a photo of it."
