Barda leads inductees into Hinsdale South Athletic Hall of Fame

Cisler, Hemenway and Lavorato also honored

Former softball standout and 1997 graduate Marie Barda leads the Class of 2019 inductees into the Hinsdale South Athletic Hall of Fame, the school announced Friday.

Barda, a Darien native who also played volleyball, is one of four new inductees, along with cross country runner and track and field athlete Bob Cisler (Class of 1987), swimmer Mike Hemenway (Class of 1986) and long time boys basketball coach Tony Lavorato Sr.

The inductees will be honored June 22 at the Hinsdale South Athletic Club Golf Outing and Dinner at Village Greens of Woodridge.

Barda holds school records for career strikeouts (1,288) and career no-hitters (17) during a four-year career. Her 395 strikeouts in 1996 set a state record for a season. She also struck out 27 batters in a 17-inning game in 1996 and won 33 games in 1997.

She was a two-time selection as Chicago Tribune All-State and Daily Herald DuPage County All-Area Captain. Barda pitched for Michigan in the 2001 Women's College World Series.

Registration remains open for the 18-hole scramble and dinner, which supports athletic programs and activities such as cheerleading and Danceline at Hinsdale South. The outing features a silent auction with prizes such as a Chromebook, iPad and golf packages to area courses. Tickets to future games for the Cubs, White Sox, Blackhawks and Northwestern football will also be available.
