DARIEN, IL – Darien continues with its improvement project for Clarendon Hills Road, from 67th Street to Plainfield Road.

The two-lane road is closed in both directions, except for residents going to their homes.

The project includes a new sidewalk along the east side from Plainfield Road to 67th Street, the construction of a crosswalk into Community Park and the installation of a traffic light at 67th and Clarendon Hills Road.

"The reason we have closed (the road) is for safety, as we're putting the sidewalks in and we're going through driveways," Daniel Gombac, the city's municipal services director, said at Monday's City Council meeting.

The detour is High Road, which is now seeing more traffic than usual.

"We have asked residents to please slow down through the detour," Gombac said. "Residents need to be cognizant that you're going through more of a local secondary roadway. Be cognizant of the neighbors there."

The Clarendon Hills project is expected to be completed by mid-August.
