Musical Theatre, Glee Club, Voice Lessons: Valuable Classes at Darien Park District

Musical Theatre, Glee Club and Voice Lessons at the Darien Park District. The benefits of music/theatre in our kids lives is immeasurable.

Hi, everyone!

In lieu of my usual rantings and ravings I wanted to, once again, shamelessly plug my classes coming up at the Darien Park District.

For the record I LOVE teaching these classes. Seeing my "kids" up there performing for audiences is awesome!!! I am pretty sure that most of the participants in my programs will probably not be Broadway stars!! I don't care. Are they always "in tune"? Nope. Do I care? Nope. Are they always perfect and do they know every step, every word to their songs? Nope. Do I care? Nope.

However, I DO care about the fact that these kids from ages 6-12 (Tappers 3-5), get up there and put themselves out there for family members, friends and complete strangers! How many of us, as adults, can say we'd do that? Not too many, I'm thinking. The confidence in themselves and in their "team" of performers to get up there and sing and dance their hearts out is awe inspiring.

On a purely analytical end, there are also many studies that show kids involved in theatre and music gain skills that they will call on for the rest of their lives. Performing in front of an audience prepares them for job interviews, presentations and a host of other situations. It gives them the confidence and focus to present themselves as well rounded people. I know this. I know this because that's what music and theatre did for me.

My last post was on the benefits of having music in your life. Please check it out. It is also beneficial for parents, friends and family to support music and theatre in our children's lives. We all talk about how "these kids nowadays...," we complain about how they think they're entitled, how they "just don't know how rough it can be." Well, they don't know. So, let's give them some extra skills and support to help them in the future, so they can navigate this ever-changing landscape of a world we live in.

We are not in the 1950s, 1960s or 1970s... The world changes quickly. When our kids were born the world was COMPLETELY different than what it is now...and more than likely will be completely different when they have children.

Let's give them some skills and a foundation that can help them out.

Let's give them some music and theatre. It will help them out. Trust me.

As usual, thanks for reading! Eat well, stay healthy and be happy!

P.S. If you'd like any information (volunteering or signing up) on the Musical Theatre, Glee Club and Voice classes at the Darien Park District please feel free to drop me a note or call the park district directly!!!!
