Our Lady of Peace First-Graders Release Butterflies
OLP first-graders release Painted Lady butterflies.
For two weeks in May, first-grade students at Our Lady of Peace School in Darien had visitors in their classrooms -- caterpillars and butterflies!
As part of their science curriculum, the students observed the metamorphosis of caterpillars to butterflies.
Teachers Janet Acheson and Barbara Pedicini purchased Painted Lady caterpillars online. The caterpillars started out growing in a cup, and as they developed, they were moved to butterfly habitats made of netting.
