Summer parties are coming to an end, but from late August into early January, fall brings pomegranate season. Pomegranate martinis packs powerful antidoxants and flavor. Not only can pomegranates lower your cholesterol and blood pressure, they may even slow the aging process.
The story behind my bartender Cheryl's Pomegranate Martini is simple. In her words, "I ordered a Pom martini at a popular restaurant and I was hooked!" So I will let Cheryl finish the story from here...
When I was bartending Cosmos were the rage.

The Pom martini came into vogue several years ago. I studied how it was made, double-checked the ingredients and made a mental note. If you don't follow the recipe and measure, you run the risk of inconsistency. Any bartender worth his salt can usually do a decent free pour (no measuring just, eyeballing), but when you are at home, make it slow, shake it hard, and enjoy!
Pomegranate Martini

2 oz citrus flavored vodka (I like Svedka)
1.5 ounce Pama pomegranate liquor
1.5 oz triple sec
3/4 oz pomegranate juice ( optional)
Half an orange, fresh
Or blood orange bitters for a less sweet taste
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the first four ingredients, shake hard — no, really hard, seriously. Then pour the mixture into a chilled martini glass (6 oz capacity) or share with someone, if you want. (I don't.) Top it off with a squeeze of that sweet orange.
