Why I Wouldn't Want to be the President

A list of reasons why I wouldn't want to be the most powerful man in the world.

There are several reasons why I wouldn’t want to be the president.  First of all, you constantly have to make decisions that will make some people angry.  You also can’t always tell people your reasoning for making those decisions without potentially compromising national security.  And you and your family are continuously surrounded by cameras and security agents, even when you’re on vacation.  Can you imagine having to worry about what might happen to you or your family members from one minute to the next?

Also, back in November, a man who thought he was on a mission from God took shots at the White House*.  I sure wouldn’t want to have to worry about something like that happening every day.  What if I got hit? What if one of my family members got hit, or worse, killed? Even with the secret service and their modern technology, there’s no guarantee that the person, or people, responsible will be caught or that they won’t try again.  There’s also the slight chance that the assailant, or assailants, will succeed with their political vendetta, whatever it may be.  Look at what happened to President John F. Kennedy.  It’s been almost 50 years since his assassination and we still don’t even know what happened to him.  Over the past few decades, other members of his family have met dubious fates.

Another reason to not want to be the president is war.  Not only are you responsible for the lives of the soldiers who die on our side, you also have to live with the fact that a number of the enemy’s soldiers are now dead as well.  Would you want that?

I mentioned the issue of privacy earlier in the story, and I’m going to return to it.  Not only is your family’s privacy nonexistent, but if you have any skeletons in your closet, there’s a very good chance that they will become public knowledge either during the campaign or your presidency.  Just look at what happened to former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.  His alleged antics with women, deplorable as they are, and his equally deplorable 13 year extra-marital affair did so much damage to his reputation that he voluntarily forfeited his chance at the White House.
