Car Theft At Store, Burglary: Darien Cops

A customer told police that his car was stolen while he was shopping.

DARIEN, IL – In the last few days, Darien police handled cases involving a car theft, a burglary, DUIs, possession of a stolen car, retail theft and driving violations. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Car theft

  • A Ford Escape was reported stolen about 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Walmart, 2189 75th St. The victim told police that a friend who had remained in the car while the victim shopped took the car. The car was last seen on video heading toward 75th Street. Police said they have no other information.

Burglary

  • Video footage shows two men stealing items from an open garage about 2 a.m. July 24 in the 3400 block of Drover. The loss was estimated at $200.

Converter theft

  • A catalytic converter was stolen between July 1 and July 31 from a car in the 800 block of 79th Street. The loss was calculated at $492.

  • Justin Mulanax, 35, of Woodridge, was arrested about 1 p.m. Aug. 1 in the 1700 block of 75th Street on charges of DUI, driving with a revoked license, speeding and driving an uninsured vehicle. Police said he was clocked speeding 72 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Frederick Knight, 39, of Naperville, was arrested about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of 75th Street on charges of DUI, driving an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage and failure to signal. Police said he was clocked speeding 45 mph in a 31 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court. Last month, he was arrested by airport police on a charge of public disorderly conduct in Spartansburg County, South Carolina, according to public records.

Possession of a stolen car

  • Keshun Lockette, 21, of Markham, was cited about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 3 near Route 83 and Interstate 55 on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, driving with a suspended license and obstructing identification. Police were told about a stolen car near Ogden Avenue and Interstate 294. Lockette was released and given a date to appear in court.

Retail theft

  • Cedric Elery, 19, of Woodridge, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. According to a police report, he was seen under-scanning items at the self-checkout counter. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

Driving violations

  • Shranda Harris, 26, of Willowbrook, was cited about 3:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the 8100 block of Cass Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured car, child safety violation, driving with a suspended registration and speeding. Police said she was clocked speeding 55 mph in a 40 mph zone. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Amiyah Yearby, 22, of Joliet, was cited about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lemont Road and Woodmere Drive on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving with an expired license plate. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Anthony Singleton, 54, of Plainfield, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Oldfield Road on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving with a suspended license. He also was cited on a charge of speeding 39 mph in a 25 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
