Cass Junior High School recently won a “Recycling Rock Star Award” from the Dream Machine Recycle Rally Contest. The school won this award by reporting recycling totals during every designated two-week period and maintained high recycling totals throughout the first semester of the contest. Cass Junior High School received a $50 Amazon gift card and Recycle Rally “goodies” valued at $100 including trophies, medals, tote bags, jump ropes, and more!
These prizes will be “sold” in the Recycle Rally Store. Students earn Recycle Rally Cash by bringing in their recyclables. (#1 clear plastic and aluminum cans) Other items in the store include: fitness passes, stickers, stuffed animals, popcorn coupons to name just a few.
The 6th graders at Cass Junior High School will also be attending a presentation from Nicor and ComEd on February 21, 2014. Each student in attendance will receive a free energy saving kit which includes: CFL light bulbs, faucet aerators, low flow shower heads, and more! Not only is the kit going to be provided at no cost, it will also save families money on their utility bills.

Finally, the Cass community also saved a large amount of holiday lights from ending up in a landfill. Elgin Recycling recently came to pick up a large pile of broken or unwanted lights.
