Child Drinks Suspected Bleach At Darien Day Care: Cops
The child is now at home resting, the day care's owner said. The incident prompted an emergency response.
DARIEN, IL – A child took a sip of suspected bleach Monday at a Darien day care, prompting an emergency response, a police official said Tuesday.
The child's parents were on hand at Kiddie Academy of Darien, 1502 75th St., when an officer and paramedics showed up to treat the child, Deputy Police Chief Jason Norton said in an email to Patch.
In a statement to Patch, Kiddie Academy owner Katie Moore said the day care became aware that a child ingested a household chemical while in a classroom. The staff immediately called 911 and quickly notified the family, she said.

She said the incident was also reported to the state licensing agency for day cares, the Department of Children and Family Services.
"We are currently reviewing procedures to ensure that we continue to offer the safest possible environment for children," Moore said.
Asked how the child obtained the chemical, Moore said the business was unable to provide any other details.
Kiddie Academy is an independently owned and operated franchise that is part of a nationwide chain.
"There is nothing more important than creating a nurturing and safe environment for the children in our care, and their families – it is our life’s commitment," Moore said.
