DARIEN, IL – Darien has done work on three corners of the intersection that it sees as the heart of the town.

Now, the city has its eyes on the final one.

On Monday, the Darien City Council is set to vote on a project with DuPage County to beautify the southeast corner of Cass Avenue and Plainfield Road.

"Our comprehensive plan sets the stage for what we do for our streetscape improvements. This falls in line with the goals of the plan," City Administrator Bryon Vana said in an interview Friday.

The corner consists of a modular block wall and a cyclone fence; behind them is shrubbery that borders backyards. The block wall is showing signs of deterioration, and the cyclone fence is rusting, the city said in a memo.

While the county will continue to maintain what is in place, the memo said, it will not enhance the corner beyond what is in place.

Under the proposal, the city and county would each chip in $187,000 for the project, which is set to feature a decorative wall and wood fence. The wall would be similar to the one at Plainfield and 75th Street.

Under its terms, the city would maintain the wall and fence.
