Crime Up In Darien So Far This Year: Stats
The police chief said research needed to be done on the factors.

DARIEN, IL – Darien has seen a big increase in thefts so far this year.
Year to date, local police received 118 reports as of August, compared with 70 at the same point the previous year, according to a police department report. In 2020, the number was 133 at this point.
Other categories of property crimes saw no such jumps. The number of burglaries during the same period this year was 10, the same as last year.

Overall, property crimes were up 14 percent.
As for violent crimes as of August, 90 incidents were reported, compared with 84 at the same point the previous year. That compares to 58 at this point in 2020.

The biggest category of violence was assaults – 87 as of August, up from 79 at the same point in 2023.
In the report, Police Chief Greg Thomas said more research needed to be done to determine the factors that may have influenced the increases.
