Darien Body Shop Proposal Goes To Next Step
Neighbors are against such a shop near their houses. The company described the reaction as "alarmist."

DARIEN, IL – A proposal for an auto body shop in Darien is set to go before a City Council committee later this month.
Two weeks ago, the city's Planning and Zoning Commission voted 7-1 against allowing a Gerber Collision & Glass in the old CVS Pharmacy building.
This was after more than 50 neighbors showed up to oppose the plan. A Gerber representative described the reaction as "alarmist."

The old CVS is at the southeast corner of Lemont Road and 83rd Street.
The city said Wednesday that Gerber, which runs hundreds of shops around the country, is in the process of providing final follow-up information.

That information may include details about emissions, which Gerber representatives did not have at the commission's meeting.
Once the city gets the information, the staff plans to review it. The issue is tentatively set to go before the council's Municipal Services Committee at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at City Hall.
The committee is made up of aldermen Thomas Belczak, Ted Schauer and Ralph Stompanato.
The full seven-member council has the final say on the proposal.
