Darien Calls For Immediate Shutdown Of Sterigenics
The city of Darien wants an emergency court order to shut down Sterigenics.

DARIEN, IL — The city of Darien has joined the villages of Willowbrook and Burr Ridge in requesting the Illinois Attorney General and DuPage County State's Attorney seek an emergency court order to shut down Sterigenics until there is proof that ethylene oxide presents no health risks to the communities.
The EPA recently released test results from November and December 2018. According to the EPA, results show the two sites located closest to the two Sterigenics buildings are seeing the highest ethylene oxide concentrations. Average readings at those sites are a little over 2 micrograms per cubic meter, with some readings as high as 10 and 11 micrograms per cubic meter.
The city previously requested Sterigenics cease operations back in October and renewed that request in December.
