Darien Car Thefts On Increase Lately: Cops

More advanced techniques are being used in the thefts, with particular cars being targeted.

DARIEN – Darien and surrounding towns have seen more car thefts lately, with criminals using more advanced techniques, Darien police said in a news release Tuesday.

The most common types of vehicles being targeted are Dodge Chargers, Dodge Challengers, Dodge Durangos and Jeep Cherokees, police said.

Suspects are using sophisticated equipment and do not need keys to operate the cars, the city said.

"The best deterrent for this is to park these vehicles inside your garage. It is also helpful to have security lighting and cameras. There does not seem to be a pattern to these thefts," the police said.
