DARIEN, IL — The Darien city government has closed all its buildings to the public starting Wednesday and lasting through Jan. 4. The city promised to continue delivering services to residents.

The City Hall front foyer will be open, so residents can access a drop box for payments and other city business, according to a news release. The City Council has already started to meet remotely.

The police department plans to provide emergency assistance and respond to all other calls as appropriate. Officers will likely attempt to handle non-emergency calls by telephone, the news release said. The department's lobby will be closed, but the vestibule will be open, allowing people to use a phone or intercom to communicate with personnel inside.
