Darien City Official In Quarantine
The official says family members have tested positive for the coronavirus.

DARIEN, IL — Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said Monday he is in quarantine because his wife and two daughters have tested positive for the coronavirus.
At the City Council's virtual meeting, Thomas said Deputy Chief Jason Norton is "very capable" of handling police issues. Norton, a longtime Darien officer, was promoted to deputy chief during the summer.
Thomas said he could still be reached and was working from home. He told the council that his family is doing well.

As with much of the country, Darien and nearby suburbs are seeing huge spikes in coronavirus cases. Darien saw 125 new coronavirus cases last week, a 24 percent increase in the total since the beginning of the pandemic.
At the same time, the rate of increase was 18 percent statewide, 13 percent in Hinsdale, 17 percent in Elmhurst, 24 percent in Western Springs and 26 percent in La Grange.
