Darien Cop-Biting Suspect Taken To Jail: Police

Police said they were called about a retail theft. The woman was wanted on a warrant in a DUI case.

DARIEN, IL – A 44-year-old woman bit a Darien police officer and kicked another earlier this week when police were responding to a retail theft, authorities said.

Uzma Shamsi was charged with felony aggravated battery, resisting an officer and retail theft, according to DuPage County court records. Police did not give Shamsi's hometown.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were notified about a retail theft at Walmart, 2189 75th St.

During Shamsi's arrest, she attacked the officers when they tried to take her into custody, police said. She was also reported as having a warrant for failure to appear in a DUI case.

The woman was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where she remains a week later.

  • A 29-year-old Darien man who lives in the 1500 block of Sequoia Lane was arrested about 1 p.m. Monday on two domestic battery counts. Police said they spoke to both the man and the alleged victim. The man was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
