Darien Cops Cite Local Bar Manager

DARIEN, IL — A Darien bar manager was cited earlier this week after the bar's music could be heard nearly a third of a mile away, police said. This comes after neighbors have complained about the noise.

About 10 p.m. Sunday, Darien officers were called about a loud party at Q Bar, 8109 Cass Ave., according to a police report. An officer confirmed the music could be heard from Adams Street and Iroquois Lane.

The bar's manager, John Kolb, 37, of Glendale Heights, was cited on charges of disorderly conduct and loud noise.

The bar couldn't be reached for immediate comment Friday morning. Previously, the bar's owner, Bob Taft, said he has worked with local police about the noise complaints. He also met with the mayor and other city officials.

Because of the pandemic, the bar was permitted to have outdoor music while indoor dining and drinking have been restricted. But an alderman said last month that residents about six-tenths of a mile away have complained about the noise.

The city has said the outdoor music at Q Bar is ending this month.

Taft has owned Q Bar for about two decades. Before the pandemic, the bar's music was always indoors.

One resident near the bar contended that her toilet bowl shakes because of the bar's noise. She said her children were suffering.
