Darien Cops Get 9 Citizen Complaints In 2023

In five instances, the reports were determined to be unfounded, police said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police received nine citizen complaints in 2023, up from six the year before.

In its annual report, the police department said it thoroughly investigated each complaint.

In one case, the officer was exonerated. The alleged acts occurred, but were justified, police said.

For five other incidents, the allegations were unfounded, meaning the acts did not occur, the report said.

Finally, in two cases, police said the alleged acts happened and violated policy. For one, an officer underwent shift-level counseling, while in the other case, an officer received a written reprimand, police said.

The complaints were in the context of more than 14,000 calls for service in 2023. The calls involved more than 7,500 traffic stops and 440 arrests.
