DARIEN, IL – Darien residents can now get emergency notifications by text message from Darien police.

The texts can be sent at any time, day or night, when an incident may affect the community, police said. The messages may involve such things as police activity, crashes and road closures.

The city is not charging for the service. The police department plans to continue using X, formerly known as Twitter, for non-urgent notifications.
