DARIEN, IL – In movies, it seems as if chases are a regular part of police work. They aren't.

As elsewhere, Darien police engage in few pursuits.

The Darien Police Department's last two annual reports include information on pursuits. In all, three officers were found to violate policies, police said.

In 2023, police recorded one pursuit, with one officer involved. A review found the officer violated policy, police said.

In 2022, two pursuits occurred, with seven officers involved. After a review, two officers were found to have violated policy.

The annual reports did not give details on the violations.

Despite Hollywood's version of the world, officers rarely deploy their weapons.

In 2023, Darien officers pulled their guns twice to gain compliance, police said. No shots were fired.

Tasers were pointed at suspects in four instances last year, with the weapon deployed just once, police said.
