Darien Coronavirus: Increase In Cases Slows

The pace of Darien's increase far less than DuPage County as a whole, figures show.

DARIEN, IL — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Darien stood at 47 as of Sunday, according to DuPage County Health Department statistics. As of Sunday, the number was 47, up from 40 a week before and 15 on April 1. The number of cases increased by 18 percent in the last week.

The pace of Darien's increase was far lower than that of DuPage County as a whole. Since last week, the county's total jumped to 1,693, up from 1,165, a 45 percent increase. Other towns also saw big spikes. Elmhurst, for example, moved up to 84, from 54, in the last week, a 55 percent jump.

In DuPage County, Naperville, the county's biggest town, had the highest number of cases, with 132.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was more than 30,000, but the number of additional deaths fell Sunday after several days of higher counts. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,290 Illinois residents.
