Darien Coronavirus Case Count Rises Slightly
Rate of increase in Darien higher than DuPage County's, according to stats.
DARIEN, IL — Darien experienced no major changes in the rate of growth in coronavirus cases in the last week. As of Sunday, the community saw nine more cases over the previous week, according to DuPage County Health Department figures.

Darien's increase last week, which amounted to 7 percent, was higher than DuPage County's 3 percent. In most weeks, except for the last two, the county's rate has been higher than Darien's. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population and 1.6 percent of the coronavirus cases.

As of Sunday, Darien had 6.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people. That compares to 3.7 in Western Springs, 5.7 in Clarendon Hills, 6.3 in Elmhurst and La Grange Park, 9.1 in Burr Ridge, 9.7 in DuPage County, 10.7 in Hinsdale, 12.9 in La Grange and 14.3 in suburban Cook County.
In DuPage County, Addison is leading the pack with 825 cases, or 22.6 per thousand, according to the health department. West Chicago follows with 772 cases, or 28.9 per thousand.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 141,723, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 6,888 state residents.
Nationally, 2.5 million people have caught the virus and 125,484 have died from it.
