Darien Coronavirus: Pace In Cases Picks Up

The number of coronavirus cases in Darien quadruples from the beginning of April.

DARIEN, IL — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Darien had quadrupled since the beginning of April, with the local rate of increase jumping in the last week, according to DuPage County numbers. As of Sunday, Darien had 60 cases, up from 15 on April 1.

Darien's number of cases increased 28 percent in the last week, which is lower than DuPage County's rate as a whole, according to DuPage County Health Department statistics. Since last week, the county's total jumped to 2,447, up from 1,693, a 45 percent increase. Other towns also saw big spikes. Elmhurst, for instance, moved up to 118, from 84, in the last week, a 40 percent increase.

Naperville, DuPage County's biggest town, had the highest number of cases, with 171, a 30 percent increase from the week before.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 43,903. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,933 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality.
