Darien Deals With 'Out Of Control' Airbnb: Official

DARIEN, IL — Darien has been made aware of an "out of control" short-term rental known as an Airbnb across the street from Hinsdale South High School.

Recently, a resident corresponded with city officials about the Airbnb in question, which is in the 7300 block of Clarendon Hills Road. At Monday's City Council meeting, Alderman Lester Vaughan, whose Ward 2 includes the Airbnb, spoke about it.

He said the resident indicated lodgers are outside throughout the night and on weekends.

"He said he has notified the Darien PD several times. It's getting out of control, so that's why he contacted the city," Vaughan said.

In an interview Tuesday, City Administrator Bryon Vana said the city is looking into the issue of whether Darien needs specific regulations for short-term rentals such as Airbnbs, as some towns have.

"I don't see Darien as a destination for people to do Airbnb. There are some properties in Darien that may be listed on Airbnb," Vana said.

Darien Patch checked several dates in the coming months and found two Darien properties listed on Airbnb.
