Darien Ends Electric Aggregation Program
All residents who were part of the program will automatically be switched to ComEd billing in September.

DARIEN, IL — The city of Darien will end its Electricity Aggregation program, which it has managed since 2012, according to the city's website. The program, approved by a voter referendum, let the city negotiate lower electric rates than ComEd for homes and small businesses.
According to the city, the average single family homeowner who stayed with the program since 2012 has realized $370 in savings. However, Darien recently sought bids to renew the Municipal Electricity Aggregation Program expiring in September, and didn't receive any bids lower than the ComEd base rate.
Darien is now in the process of suspending the Electricity Aggregation Program since savings could not be guaranteed. All resident and small business accounts currently in the program will automatically be returned to ComEd following meter readings in September, according to the city's website.
