DARIEN, IL – A two-story office building is planned on the Darien site where a car wash was proposed in 2020.

The property is at 2505 75th St., where a more than 80-year-old house sits, according to city records.

In a letter to the city, Hussain Shujauddin, CEO of Zee Signs, is proposing a 7,000-square-foot building on the site.

"Overall, Zee Signs is a low-impact business that prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and respect for neighboring properties," he said.

The business is now on Executive Drive in Willowbrook.

The 75th Street site is between a car repair shop and a shopping center that includes Jimmy John's sandwich shop.

In 2020, DuPage County considered a proposal for a car wash on the property. Neighbors in the subdivision behind the house contended that such a business would be disruptive.

The car wash did not happen.

Because of the neighbors' concerns, Darien annexed the property, so it could regulate its use.

Darien's Plan Commission plans to review the proposal at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Darien Police Department's training room.
