Darien Frustrated With ComEd On Traffic Signals
The signals are up, but are not on, which the city blames on the utility.

DARIEN, IL – You may have seen the brand-new traffic light at 67th Street and Clarendon Hills Road.
But there's a problem: It's not on yet.
The same goes for new pedestrian signals in front of Hinsdale South High School and Community Park.

Darien is blaming ComEd for failing to perform its work to make sure the signals are online.
For the second City Council meeting in a row, city official Dan Gombac on Monday expressed frustration with delays in ComEd doing the work.

"There's no excuse," said Gombac, the municipal services director. "For 67th Street and Clarendon Hills Road, that's been in the works for over one year with ComEd."
He said Darien is trying to do whatever it can, but it is out of the city's control.
The pedestrian signals at Hinsdale South have been ready to go for three weeks, Gombac said. He said he heard last week that ComEd would get there in eight to 14 days.
"Again, I want to let the residents know how we feel the frustration more so than you can imagine," Gombac said.
Earlier Monday, Gombac emailed ComEd's Adriana Carrasquillo about the issue.
"What is the status of the 67th and Clarendon Hills Rd signals, we are over a year now?" he wrote. "Motorists continue to contact us regarding the status and conditions. I need to escalate this issue to your hierarchy and appreciate a contact."
Soon after, Carrasquillo gave her "sincere apologies" to Gombac for the continuous delays. She described in technical detail what she said was the reason for the latest delay.
"I have an internal meeting with our Public Relocation and Construction group at noon today to understand the remaining scope and targeted completion timeframe," she said.
Asked for an update Wednesday, Gombac said in an email to Patch, "Nothing has changed but ongoing promises."
