Darien Man On Riding Mower Charged: Cops

The resident crossed a major road and went to a shopping center on the mower, police said.

DARIEN, IL — A Darien man who rode his mower to a number of places around town a week ago faces a number of charges, police said.

Scott Svencner, 59, who lives on 79th Street, was charged with driving with a revoked license, driving a non-highway vehicle on a roadway, no valid registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

About 11:30 a.m. Aug. 5, an officer saw Svencner riding a mower near Cass Avenue and Plainfield Road, crossing Plainfield and proceeding west on the sidewalk, according to a police report. He continued to Brookhaven Plaza, parked and went into the business, police said. Upon leaving the store, he was then seen driving on various streets, the report said. The officer then stopped Svencner.

Svencner was released and given a date to appear in court.
