Darien Man Spreads Hate Online: Group
The man targets LGBT and African-American communities, according to the group's investigation.
DARIEN, IL – A Darien man was the subject of a lengthy investigation by a group that monitors hate movements around the United States.
In late November, the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center's Hatewatch released its investigation on Darien's Terry Newsome.
Patch interviewed Newsome on Thursday morning, and he detailed why he thought the center's allegations were false.

In June, Newsome was elected a precinct committeeman in the DuPage County Republican Party.
The center said Newsome has "connections to extremist groups and a history of using bigoted rhetoric about Black people and LGBTQ people."

He is the Illinois chapter president of Parents Involved in Education. His Gettr social media page says he is "aggressively fighting against radical leftists from indoctrinating our children."
Newsome contends that "radical leftists are pushing porn upon our children." He objects to the "sexualization and grooming of children." Such posts are seen by the center as references to LGBT-inclusive education.
In its investigation, Hatewatch said Newsome liked an anonymous comment that used the N-word.
“More attacks on White Americans. And they wonder why we call them (N-words),” Hunterw21 commented to a now-deleted thread on Gettr that Newsome liked, according to Hatewatch.
The group also says Newsome deleted a racist caricature against African Americans from his Gettr page in early October.
Hatewatch said it contacted Newsome for comment.
In response, Newsome issued a statement: "After further advice from counsel I was suggested not to respond to your request. I was informed that Southern Poverty Law is a very extreme discredited far left organization. Furthermore, I was informed that you are a self proclaimed far left activist intent on using media and communications to 'disrupt privilege' for the sole purpose of social justice. Therefore I will not be responding."
