Darien May Target Airbnbs, Other Short-Term Rentals
City officials are responding to complaints from residents. One Airbnb was labeled a "party house."

DARIEN, IL – Darien is considering prohibiting short-term rentals such as Airbnbs, a response to residents' complaints.
On Monday, the City Council is set to vote on barring rentals of houses for less than 30 days. Earlier this week, the city's Municipal Services Committee voted unanimously to recommend such a rule.
Under a proposed ordinance, anyone who refuses to comply with the rule would be subject to a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 for each offense. Each day is considered a separate offense.
