Darien Native To Take Plunge
ComEd's Veronica Gomez has a strategy for jumping into "freezing cold" of Lake Michigan.

DARIEN, IL — Darien native Verónica Gomez, a top executive at ComEd, is taking part in the polar plunge in Lake Michigan this weekend. It's her third time. This year, it will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday at the North Avenue Beach in Chicago.
“ComEd is so involved in the community, but there is something about this event that makes it special,” Gomez said in a statement. “People not only pledge, but they get up early on a Sunday morning, commute all the way to North Avenue beach, and actually plunge in freezing cold Lake Michigan.”
Gomez's strategy for plunging and braving the cold is to focus on how deep she’ll go into the water, then envision herself doing so before heading into the water, “because the moment your feet get in the water, your mind says ‘nope,’” she said.
