Darien Needs To Get Inside Your Home
The city is changing out thousands of residential water meters. The new equipment is expected to give more accurate readings.

DARIEN, IL – Darien needs to get inside your home because it is changing out thousands of residential water meters through September 2023.
It is teaming up with DuPage County and a couple of other towns on the project. Calumet City Plumbers has been hired to handle it.
Like ComEd and Nicor, Darien is installing automated meters.

"One of the major benefits is the accurate readings," Dan Gombac, the city's municipal services director, told the City Council this week. "We need all the cooperation we can get from residents to make this program successful."
He said Calumet City Plumbers has been vetted and its employees must undergo background checks. They will drive their company's trucks, wear its uniforms and have identification cards, he said.

Darien is changing out 9,000 meters in the city and 2,500 in unincorporated areas.
Residents are set to receive letters from the city, so they can schedule appointments, which last 15 to 30 minutes, officials said.
The city has created a video to explain the process.
