Darien Neighborhood May See Warehouse Nearby

A Darien alderman said it's not a good spot for such a building.

WOODRIDGE, IL – A warehouse with 36 truck docks may be built near a Darien residential neighborhood.

The industrial building at 8000 Lemont Road would be next to the subdivision that includes Woodmere Drive.

The 172,000-square-foot warehouse would be across the street in Woodridge's jurisdiction. Currently, the site includes three houses and a barn, the village said.

The developer, Houston-based Alliance Industrial Co., is designating the property as "speculative," meaning it has no signed buyers or tenants.

Under Woodridge regulations, an operation with dock doors cannot operate at night within 300 feet of homes. In this case, the building would be farther than that, according to the village.

The docks are proposed for the north side of the building. The plan also includes 220 parking spaces.

The developer has submitted a concept, but not a formal application.

Last week, Woodridge's Plan Commission reviewed the concept, taking no vote. It is tentatively set to go before the Village Board on May 21.

After Alliance submits an application, the proposal would undergo a public hearing process.

Asked about the development, Darien Alderman Eric Gustafson, who represents the neighborhood in question, said he had heard about it.

"I don't think it is a good location for the warehouse," he said in an email. "Lemont Road is already very busy."
