Darien Pastor Talks Canonization of John Paul II and John XXIII

Walter Dziordz of Our Lady of Peace said that the honor was wonderfully appropriate for people "worth emulating."

Pastor Walter Dziordz of Darien's Our Lady of Peace Catholic church has praised the decision of Pope Francis to canonize Pope John Paul II (pope 1978-2005), as well as Pope John XXIII (pope 1958-1963), the Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, Dziordz said that both men served as exemplars of Catholic values and were well-liked even outside the Church, and that they should be held up as role models. He personally recalled a personal meeting with John Paul II at a private mass several years ago, the paper said.

“He took my hand and looked like he was very fascinated and interested in what I was saying,” Dzirdoz told the paper. “I couldn't help but smile because I knew what he was doing, he wanted to make me feel comfortable.

“You look at both these men and they both exemplify the best in the Catholic Church, the deepest wisdom and the deepest teaching."
